From Daily Commutes to Data-Driven Solutions | Institute Open House (IOH)
At the recent Institute Open House, our team engaged with students, parents, and visitors through an interactive exploration of urban mobility rooted in everyday lived experiences.
We sparked conversations with a simple but powerful question: “How much CO₂ did your trip here generate today?”
Visitors calculated the carbon emissions of their travel mode and explored alternative mobility choices — walking, cycling, public transport, and shared mobility — to see the potential CO₂ savings in real time. For many, this became a moment of reflection on how daily travel decisions connect directly to climate impact.
Building on these discussions, we invited participants to share the mobility challenges they face every day — congestion, delays, unsafe driving conditions, and unreliable public transport. Using these real inputs, we demonstrated how data, AI, and systems thinking can translate lived challenges into actionable urban mobility solutions, while addressing broader issues such as safety, data gaps, and planning limitations.
We then showcased our core research and innovation initiatives:
🔹 Developing and Strengthening Digital Twins for evidence – based urban mobility planning
🔹 AI + Mobility Intelligence for Indian Cities using Telecom Data to capture diverse and dynamic travel patterns
🔹 Why Driver Rating Matters in Platform Mobility? — towards safer roads and fair, data-driven driver evaluation
We also highlighted implemented solutions already making an impact:
• 📹 AI camera-based vehicle detection for identifying lane violations and speeding
• 🚌 Bus priority signaling systems to improve public transport efficiency and reliability
The curiosity and engagement we witnessed reinforced the importance of co-creating mobility solutions — by connecting everyday experiences with advanced technologies — and inspiring the next generation of urban problem-solvers.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by and shared their journeys with us. Together, we move closer to safer, smarter, and more sustainable cities 🌱✨
